Ah so it is very much the same as plumbing silicone tape : )
Not exactly the same in width and thickness maybe, but silicone plumbing tape is about $3 a roll and rescue tape is substantially more and the plumbing tape can be wrapped to increase width and thickness.

I don't think so, unless we are talking about different things. My teflon ribbon stuff for putting on threads before joining two pipes together doesn't even stick well to itself.

Here's a prepper size 2" clear roll of the stuff with reveiws. (I haven't read them yet.)

zenobia, kumerakid, any of you use this rescue tape in marine type uses and can give comment ? It does look useful. I see they market it through boating and military supply stores as well as amazon etc.

Apparently, if I am understanding the accent correctly, due to budget cuts the Dutch railroad system is highly dependent on Rescue Tape to remain in repaired mode.

Firstly I would call it a repair tape and the word rescue is an emotive use of the word. I have had and used emergency water activated epoxy putties with all sorts of claims without any real success. Then there are miracle bandages for repairing hoses and pipes, used those with only moderate success. I would have to see the rescue tape actually work in my own hands before I would believe the hype. I also take issue with emergency or rescue products when they are used as bail out for poor marine maintenance. Most mechanical and emergency situations at sea are a result of poor maintenance in my experience and could have been avoided. Having said that I would possibly buy it and put it in the tool kit only when it had proven to me that it works....I am sceptical of products that claim a quick fix when your "maintenance" fails, I have pulled too many vessels out of the crap when they have relied on those products. I have used too many of those same products on my own boats and seen them fail when everything is wet, you are on a lee shore, it is blowing a gale and tshtf. An ounce of prevention always trumps a pound of cure. People say "you never know when something can happen" if you know your boat and its systems you can and will. That is what seamanship is all about.

From where I'm sitting, after watching that video of how it's being used to bandage up a whole broke and broken railroad system, I'm thinking yea it's emotive but worse than that it's a scream into the future. I hope the airlines aren't held together with that stuff yet.

The duct tape on that one looks like an improvement. Wonder what will happen when a rescue taped up plane falls out of the sky and lands on a derailed rescue taped up train. Will they bond?

I think that stuff might be good for repairs to hoses or pipes that need to be used right then and replacement is done ASAP. I've had this problem with hoses for irrigation when working before and something like this could have saved a lot of trouble. I wouldn't want to be depending on it for long or for something really critical.

Yep. It wasn't made to hold the whole world together. It's for emergencies. In one youtube tape it was put to good use to cover a rope that was used as an emergency fan belt to get a rescue boat back to harbor.

Ok, we have decided to go ahead with the Hawaii Plan. We will still be trying to learn to sail, but acquiring anything beyond a few hundred dollars is on indefinite hold. Our Indiana place is for sale, details here:http://forums.sustainablecountry.com...ace-in-Indiana.

As we go through our things and decide what to get rid of/sell I'll post in that thread.

It is good in many ways, but I'm worried about reactors and such and if I ave to live somewhere with winter I would want to go back to Indiana where some of my friends are still around. I'm hoping to persuade one or two of my friends to join us in Hawaii.

I'm envious. Where did you decide to go in Hawaii?

Puna, we are still deciding exactly where. I think somewhere between Keeau and a point about halfway between Volcano and Mountain View. But it is still a fairly open question. Where we find what we want at a price we can manage, basically.

We put the Hawaii plan on hold because we split up. Now she and her partner(a friend of mine as well) and I are back on track to go. A friend of mine and I plan to sail out with most of our things but she and he and the boys will probably fly. Or take a ship berth if one can be found. Our farm is for sale and we are giving away our selling almost everything we own.

I'm trying to find a place to stay so I can go on out, get acclimated, and look at property. The workshare I was trying for fell through. They wanted someone permanent.
